French supermarket Carrefour has acquires 10 hypermarkets in the Sao Paulo area from Sonae, it said today (Thursday).
Carrefour paid 317m Brazilian reais (US$129m) for the hypermarkets, which currently operate under the BIG banner.
These 10 hypermarkets reported 2004 net sales of 455m reais. With this transaction, Carrefour strengthens its position in the Sao Paulo area, it said. The final transfer should take place by the end of June 2005. Carrefour is the second largest retailer in Brazil.
