Brioche Pasquier, the French baker, has indicated it will close two factories producting biscotte, or crisp bread.
Pasquier has confirmed said it will shut its site in Amboise in the Loire Valley next autumn. Some 49 staff will be affected.
The company, which has five plants making biscotte products in France and two in Spain, had indicated in 2006 it could close the facility when it decided to invest in another biscotte plant in Brissac-Quince, 150km further west.
However, another of the five plants, even further west in Saint-Herblain near Nantes, appears set to close.
Pasquier said it will ultimately have three biscotte plants: in Brissac-Quince, Andrezieux-Boutheon and Fontenay-le-Comte.
“This industrial reorganisation is vital to the future of the biscotte business,” CEO Pascal Pasquier said.
