French retail giant Carrefour has denied rumours that the group’s chief executive Jose-Luis Duran and chief financial officer Eric Reiss are preparing to leave the company.

“This is merely an unsubstantiated speculative rumour,” a spokesperson for the world’s second largest retailer told just-food. “The company has absolute confidence in its management.”

A French report suggested that the CEO and CFO jobs could be under threat yesterday (12 March) after the company’s chairman, Luc Vandevelde, was forced to resign under pressure from the Halley family, Carrefour’s largest shareholder, which holds a 13% stake. Robert Halley replaced Vandevelde as chairman.

In a statement, Carrefour said that it formally denies the rumour, which was first published in weekly newsletter La Lettre de l’Expansion. The company noted that last week the supervisory board expressed confidence in Duran and the executive board to continue to lead Carrefour’s revival.
