Carrefour has signed a three-year supply deal with French beef processors Covial and Levesque and a group of 1,170 Limousine cattle breeders.

The deal was announced at France’s annual agricultural show, SIA, which is currently taking place in Paris.

“This agreement offers breeders better visibility in the mid-term and guarantees them commercial outlets, allowing them to invest in production facilities and develop their businesses. It also enables Carrefour to supply consumers with quality Limousine beef in its stores,” the retailer said.

Carrefour has made a commitment to purchase set volumes of product, which will rise by 2% annually over the three-year duration of the deal.

Provision was made for tripartite contracts between farmers, processors and retailer in French legislation passed last year.
