Carrefour chief, José Luis Duran, has indicated that the Asian region will account for 45 of the 100 new hypermarkets the French retail giant is planning to open in 2006.


Brazil is also earmarked for growth with around 12 new openings compared to 5 in 2005.
 
In 2005, Carrefour’s global openings totaled 54 while the annual average between 2000 and 2004 was 45 new outlets. 2005 saw Carrefour withdraw from markets in Mexico, the Czech Republic and Slovakia.
