Danone is planning to build a second dairy plant in Bangladesh as part of its plan to link social projects to its investments in emerging markets.

The plant will be located close to Bangladeshi capital Dhaka and forms part of the company’s Danone Communities project.

The French food giant has put aside some EUR60m (US$90.8m) in six months for the scheme and has already built a mini-production plant in Bangladesh making affordable yoghurts for local consumers.

The plant is situated 150km north of Dhaka and has a targeted output of 2,500-3,000 tonnes of yogurt a year.

Danone plans to have up to 50 plants located in Bangladesh in the next ten to 15 years.
