Danone has confirmed that it will stop sales of its “beauty-enhancing” yoghurt, Essensis, in France from 1 March, citing the negative impact from the economic slowdown.

The product marked Danone’s entry into the dermo-nutrition market when it was launched in February 2007.

“The withdrawal of Essensis in France has nothing to do with the product itself but is rather a consequence of the current economic context which has put pressure on consumers spending power,” a company spokesperson told just-food.

“Nor does it call into question our research in the field of dermo-nutrition.”

The spokesperson added that with little or no market visibility, it was impossible to say when Essensis would be re-introduced in France.
