Danone’s chairman and chief executive, Franck Riboud, says calls to boycott French goods in the US are having only a marginal impact on the French dairy product group’s sales.

Earlier this year, the chairman of the US House of Representatives raised the question of possible sanctions against French wine and mineral water in protest to France’s stance on Iraq.

In recent weeks, the New York Times carried an advertisement exhorting Americans to boycott a list of 100 French goods which included Danone brands.

Speaking on French radio, Riboud said Danone’s sales in the US probably showed a drop of 3%, which was “nothing dramatic”. The US accounts for around 9% of Danone’s consolidated turnover.
