Spanish discount retailer Dia has confirmed it is to begin trialling its neighbourhood store model Dia Fresh in France.
Dia, which launched the format across Spain in November last year, said it is set to opened a trial store in the south east of France at the beginning of the summer. The spokesperson, however, would not reveal further details of the trial.
The format, which focuses on consumers’ demands for fresh products, stocks items such as fruit, vegetables, meat, fish and bakery, at its stores in Spain. Around 20 stores opened in the country by the end of last year with an investment of EUR250,000 (US$322,000).
Earlier this week, Dia announced a deal to sell its retail venture in Turkey. Dia has operated in Turkey since 1999 through a joint venture with local conglomerate Sabanci Holding.
However, the two shareholders have agreed to sell the business to Turkish food group Yildiz Holding, which also owns local discounter Sok. The transaction is subject to competition approval.
