Sodiaal is demanding that milk suppliers to Entremont Alliance, the cheese maker set to be acquired by the French dairy co-op, make a financial commitment if they wish to be part of the new group emanating from the deal.

Since last month, Sodiaal representatives have held a total of almost 40 meetings across Brittany with Entremont’s dairy farmers, who have been asked to contribute EUR6.20 (US$8.44) per 1,000 litres over a period of five years. In return, Sodiaal will pay them at the same rate as their existing milk suppliers.

“The financial commitment is a recoverable investment and also one which confers full membership rights of the Sodiaal dairy co-operative,” a company spokesman told just-food.

Commenting on finalising the acquisition of Entremont the spokesman said: “The key issues have been resolved and it’s now a case of tying up the loose ends.”
