Heinz is to buy Benedicta, a French manufacturer of tabletop sauces, mayonnaises and salad dressings.
The US food group said the acquisition fits “perfectly into Heinz’s global strategy” to focus its portfolio on three core categories: ketchup and sauces, infant/nutrition and meals and snacks.
Terms of the intended transaction were not disclosed but will be subject to normal regulatory and works council review.
Roel van Neerbos, president, Heinz Continental Europe, said: “This will contribute to our strategy to grow our sauces business in France.”
Benedicta, which generates around US$90m in sales, produces sauces, including traditional mayonnaise and Bearnaise sauces, as well as modern dip and barbecue sauces.
