Icelandic seafood giant SIF has bought UK speciality seafood supplier Lyons Seafoods, marking SIF’s first major acquisition in the UK seafood market.
Lyons Seafoods, which registered turnover to £53m (US$84.4m) in the year to March, supplies leading UK supermarkets, caterers and cash & carry stores with fresh and chilled seafood.
SIF said it planned to retain all of Lyons’ senior management, reported The Grocer.
Last week, SIF announced that its French unit, SIF France, has sold a fresh fish processing unit and other assets for ISK280m (US$3.6m), reported the Icelandic News Digest. SIF France plans to sell four of its eight production facilities, one of its four distribution centres and both storage facilities in France by the end of 2003, as part of a long-term development strategy.
