French retail giant Casino has booked a 6.5% rise in third-quarter sales as a jump in overseas sales and foreign exchange gains offset slow domestic growth.

The company posted net sales of EUR7.18bn (US$10.1bn) for the three months to the end of September thanks to double-digit growth from its international operations.

Casino said its business outside France saw its sales climb 10.2% on an organic basis, with “strong momentum” in Brazil, Colombia, Thailand and Vietnam.

Within France, sales inched up by 0.2% as falling same-stores from its Geant hypermarket business offsetting higher sales from Casino’s Leader Price, Franprix, Monoprix and Cdiscount formats.
