The French subsidiary of German snacks group Intersnack is investing EUR20m (US$32m) over the next three years at its plant in Vic-sur-Aisne.

“This major investment focuses on the creation of a highly-efficient plant, having the capacity to handle growing volumes of product and with the necessary size to be profitable and to ensure its long-term viability,” a spokesperson for the group told just-food.

Intersnack has restructured its activities in France with the merger of Vico and Lorenz Snack-World. The company hopes to consolidate its presence in a fiercely competitive crisps market.

The spokesperson did not comment on what the capacity of the expanded plant will be, but did confirm that Intersnack had made provision to close its plant in Noyon, situated 25 kilometres away. The 175 staff employed at Noyon will be transferred to Vic-sur-Aisne.

Intersnack France posted a 2007 turnover of EUR266m.
