Daniel Jaouen has been appointed chairman of French dairy group Lactalis.

He succeeds Michel Leonard, who said he was leaving the company to spend more time with his family.

One of the last acts of Leonard’s tenure came last month when Lactalis submitted an unsuccessful bid to acquire Entremont Alliance. Unifem, the holding company controlling the struggling emmental maker, rebuffed Lactalis’ advances and instead choose to re-open exclusive merger negotiations with Sodiaal.

Jaouen has been with Lactalis for 20 years, previously serving as director of international affairs.
