Kraft Foods is testing out cream cheese brand Philadelphia in France.

Trials of the billion-dollar brand began several weeks ago in supermarket outlets in south-east France and in the city of Angers in the west of the country, with the product being supplied from a manufacturing plant in Fallingbostel, in Germany.

When contacted by just-food, a Kraft spokeperson would only confirm that Philadelphia was being tested in France and added that no decision had been taken at this stage on a possible national roll-out of the product next year.

Available in regular, light, fat-free and flavoured varieties, Philadelphia is already an established brand in English-speaking countries, including the UK where it underwent a relaunch in 2009 with new packaging and a marketing push.

The cheese also has its own page on social network Facebook where over 25,000 aficionados worldwide discuss the product and exchange recipes.
