Dairy group Lactalis has confirmed that it has submitted an offer for embattled French counterpart Entremont Alliance.
Sodiaal, which had been in exclusive negotiations with Entremont for a number of weeks without concluding a deal, continues to be in the running.
A Lactalis spokesman told just-food Friday afternoon that he could not comment on the group’s bid other than to say discussions had begun and they that focused on all of Entremont’s assets.
He added that Lactalis was “committed to participating in the restructuring of the cheese sector in France and building a solid emmental grouping”.
The spokesman said that given the precarious state Entremont was in, it was likely that an agreement with one of the two bidders would be reached before Christmas.
