German retailer Metro Group has teamed up with Deutsche Post World Net’s (DPWN) delivery and logistics subsidiary, DHL, to rollout radio frequency identification (RFID) in France.
In the first move of its kind in the country, DHL will equip some 1.3m pallets per year with the RFID tags to facilitate automated monitoring of Metro’s supply chain.
“This project is setting the trend for the whole logistics industry as it brings the era of pilot projects in the RFID technology to an end,” said John Allan, DPWN CFO.
The project will see five DHL food logistics centres equip all shipments to Metro stores with RFID tags.
