France is due to enforce new measures aimed at combating bovine spongiform encephalopathy (BSE), the fatal, brain-wasting cattle disease.
Farm minister Jean Glavany is due to present the measures during talks with the beef industry on Thursday morning, but the farm ministry declined to comment further on the nature of the measures.
France’s main farm union FNSEA have been protesting over government inaction. FNSEA is putting pressure on authorities to compensate farmers for losses resulting from public panic over BSE.
