Embattled French poultry exporter Tilly-Sabco, which had been facing closure next month, has secured business through to the end of September.

The Brittany firm, which employs around 340 staff, had been threatened with a shutdown after chick breeders threatened to cease deliveries if they did not receive guarantees of payment.

“People were writing us off but we’ve found a provisional solution through the support of breeders and our biggest customer in the Middle East,” Tilly-Sabco’s director of supplies, Jean-Pierre Garion, told just-food.

“This gives us the scope to continue our current weekly production output of 450,000 chickens over a two-day period, through September and enable us to meet customer demands. We now have our eye on a longer term solution.”

Tilly-Sabco has had its back to the wall since the EU withdrew subsidiaries for poultry exports last year.

Garion added Tilly-Sabco continued to work on finding a buyer for the company. “We may have something to report on this sooner than people are perhaps expecting.”
