French poultry prrocessor Groupe Doux has created 125 new jobs at its abattoir and processing plant in Châteaulin, in Brittany, amid strong growth in exports.
The additional staff have been hired to work a night-shift to complement two existing day-time shifts at the plant, which already employs more than 500 employees.
The new work organisation at the plant became fully operational last week, increasing production by 30% and taking daily processing output to 477 000 chickens.
“The increase in production will allow the group to pursue its development on export markets and satisfy world demand for meat and poultry, which is rising at 5-6% annually,” Doux said. “In the meat sector, poultry is enjoying the highest growth rate and will be the most consumed (meat) by 2018.”
