Sodiaal intends to close one of the 13 production plants operated by fellow French dairy co-op Entremont Alliance.

An official at Sodiaal, which secured the acquisition of Entremont at the start of the year, confirmed the plan to just-food on Friday (4 March).

The plant is located in Trébillet in southern France and employs around 70 staff. It makes melting and raclette cheeses, as well as prepared dishes.

A workshop at another Entremont plant, located in Carhaix, in Brittany and employing 104 staff, is also earmarked for closure. It specialises in packaging activities for emmental cheese.

“These closures form part of proposed re-organisation measures which were presented to Entremont’s works council last week,” a senior Sodiaal official told just-food.

“The Trébillet plant is over-sized for its output and production will be transferred to other plants. As for the closure of the Carhaix workshop, Entremont has some surplus capacity as far as packaging is concerned. The plant itself is not under threat.” he explained, adding that no other Entremont plant closures were planned.
