French supermarket company Carrefour is expected to announce soon that it is selling its optical store chains in France and Spain to specialist French eyewear company Alain Afflelou for almost €100m (US$115.5m).

Franchise operator Afflelou and its financial backers beat a bid from French rival GrandVision to buy the 66 outlets in France and 68 in Spain, reported Dow Jones Newswires, citing sources.

“Carrefour is selling these stores because they’re performing well but not as well as the rest of the hypermarkets business,” a person familiar with the situation was quoted by Dow Jones News as saying. “It helps them concentrate on the core business.”
