Struggling UK-based food group Uniq has remained silent on reports that it is planning to sell its French subsidiary, Marie, to French poultry firm LDC.

Declining to comment on the rumour, a spokesperson said: “If a deal were in the offing a stock exchange announcement would be made at the appropriate time.”

In March, Uniq appointed advisers to consider the future of its businesses in France and northern Europe after posting deeper-than-anticipated annual losses.

LDC was unavailable to comment at time of press.
