French regulators have cleared the sale of Uniq’s prepared meats business Marie to poultry group LDC.

The French Competition Authority gave unconditional clearance to the EUR60m(US$84.5m).deal on Tuesday (22 September).

LDC will assume responsibility for Marie’s net debt of EUR13m. It hopes the deal will provide it with a foundation to expand its branded business in the French chilled and frozen prepared foods market.

Marie produces branded prepared meals across a number of categories, including pizza, pies, quiches and precooked chilled and frozen meals. The business generated a turnover of EUR265m in 2008 and operates seven production facilities in France.

Uniq’s third-quarter interim management statement for the period to 30 September is expected to be published on 15 October.
