A difficult growing season has pushed up fruit prices in France, which surged almost 3% in June, up 9.6% year-on-year.

The French government statistics agency INSEE today (13 July) reported that cherries, peaches, nectarines, apricots and melons have continued to command high prices this season.
For the same reasons, the price of vegetables have not gone down as far as they would in a normal summer, trading 1.2% higher year-on-year. INSEE attributes this to “difficult climatic conditions”.
An upward movement of just under 1% was noted in the prices of ready-prepared, frozen and canned vegetables. It would be premature, however, to attribute this shift solely to seasonal conditions.
It is not all price increases, though: ice cream prices have sagged by 0.6%.
