Staff at French pork processor Gad have decided to maintain action outside the company’s abattoirs after rejecting a deal on improved redundancy terms.
Around 500 workers have turned down an agreement between management and unions.

The employees are based at Gad’s Lampaul-Guimiliau abattoir, which is earmarked for closure as part of a rescue plan that will lead to almost 900 job losses.
A union official had recommended that workers accept the deal, which focused on an increase in bonus payments to staff losing their jobs. “It’s not enough but it’s better than nothing,” he said.
No-one was immediately to comment at Gad.
Yesterday, workers from the Lampaul-Guimiliau abattoir clashed with colleagues at Gad’s abattoir in Josselin that is set to remain open. Riot police had to intervene.
