FrieslandCampina has joined a consortium of companies, including NIZO Food Research, Ruitenberg Ingredients and SONAC, to develop “innovative solutions” to deliver a protein-rich diet.
The cooperation, called TAPAS, aims to make “more efficient” use of the proteins available. It aims to capitalise on NIZO’s experience of protein and product process interactions, Ruitenberg’s knowledge of plant-based protein, SONAC’s understanding of producing functional proteins from animal by-products and FrieslandCampina’s dairy expertise.
Announcing the initiative, FrieslandCampina said the move comes in response to growing global demand for protein-dense foods. Proteins are “crucial” to a healthy diet, particularly for groups such as the elderly, hospitalised patients, and athletes need, the Netherlands-based company noted.
“The collaboration ensures effective development of foods that quickly find their way to the market,” the company said.
The partnership is supported by the Operational Programme of the eastern Netherlands, a joint programme of the provinces of Overijssel and Gelderland, as well as the urban networks Zwolle, Kampen Netwerkstad, Stedendriehoek, Network City Twente Region Valley and Arnhem-Nijmegen. The programme covers activities that are co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund.
