Freida’s Pantry, a UK business that has developed snack bars for new mums after they give birth, is targeting the US market.

The company offers three bars, which it is selling for US$2.60 for a single bar and for $31.20 for a box of 12 on its own website and from Amazon Prime.

Freida’s Pantry said it “plans to announce our first bricks-and-mortar stores” in the US in the first quarter of 2017. In the UK, its bars are available in chains including Superdrug and Whole Foods, as well as online through Ocado and Amazon.

“Freida’s Pantry was born from necessity after the difficult birth of my third son. I quickly realised that a lot of mums were in need of a nutrient-rich, quick and easy option after giving birth, and I’m excited to share these traditional recipes with US mums,” founder Sharon Kaur said.

The bars contain ingredients including fennel – which the company claims naturally increases a mum’s milk supply and soothes a baby’s tummy – and maca to give women “a natural boost of energy”.

According to data on Companies House in the UK, Freida’s Pantry was set up in 2013 as Freida Food Company. It changed its name to Freida’s Pantry Ltd a year later.
