General Mills has confirmed it will shut a factory in the US manufacturing soups sold under the Progresso brand.

In July, General Mills announced a “tentative decision” to close the site in Vineland in New Jersey, subject to talks with union officials. It blamed excess soup capacity.

With the negotiations now completed, General Mills is to embark on the closure of the plant, which it has run since 2001. The facility will shut by the first quarter of General Mills 2018 fiscal year, which starts in the early summer of 2017.

The closure will affect around 370 employees. General Mills said it will provide “severance and transition benefits” to the staff.

News the Vineland site could close came alongside a fresh round of restructuring at General Mills. The company also announced it would be slashing 420 jobs in Brazil and 300 in China as part of changes to some international product lines.
