General Mills has rolled out a drinkable version of its Yoplait Perle de Lait yogurt brand in China.
The US group has launched the product in Beijing and Shanghai. The company claimed demand for drinking yogurts had been “very strong in recent years in China”.
Gary Zhang, a senior marketing manager for General Mills’ operations in Asia and Latin America, said: “The taste profile of Perle de Lait Drinkable is very close to the cup product, so we’re leveraging the winning equity of that brand – creamy and smooth – and applied it to the drinkable version. But we carefully sought a balance – friendly for drinking but still a little thick.”
The drinkable Perle de Lait comes in three varieties: plain, strawberry and pomegranate. General Mills already offers plain and strawberry Perle de Lait cup yogurts in China but has added a pomegranate line to the drinking yogurt stable.
General Mills launched the Yoplait brand in China in 2015.
