Bahlsen GmbH & Co. KG is mulling price rises on its products as a consequence of higher raw material costs.
Local German press reported that the German pastry group had seen the prices for butter and powdered milk, in particular, grow substantially. On top of that, the increased use of maize and wheat for energy production had resulted in reduced supplies.
The German news reports said, however, that the company would not seek to cut jobs to lower costs. It would also look to invest EUR28m (US$37.6m) in advertising on the German market.
The company’s CEO was quoted as saying that group sales are expected to increase between 2% and 3% this year. Sales in 2006 were flat at EUR458m.
