DMK, Germany’s largest dairy, has created a stand-alone unit for its ice cream business.
The company yesterday (3 January) announced the formation of DMK Eis, which it described as “one of the leading ice cream manufacturers in Europe”.

DMK insisted the move would allow it to “expand and strengthen” as an ice cream maker internationally.
Frédéric Dervieux, the former executive vice president of DMK’s ice cream business and now MD for operations at DMK Eis, said the stand-alone unit would be able to innovate more quickly.
“The market is clearly innovation-driven. It is our aspiration to constantly reinvent ice cream. In addition to innovative ideas, this calls for a high level of flexibility and also fast decision making processes, which will be facilitated by the new business structure,” Dervieux said.
DMK makes ice cream at sites in the German towns of Everswinkel and Recke. In November, the company announced it was in talks to buy local rival Durigon Gelato, based in the northern German town of Schwanewede-Brundorf.

By GlobalDataA week later, UK-based R&R Ice Cream revealed it had agreed a deal to buy Durigon, subject to clearance from Germany’s competition authorities.
DMK has declined to comment on the factors that led to talks between it and Durigon breaking down and R&R securing a deal.
