German retailer Edeka has appointed local industry veteran Gert Schambach as a member of the company’s board of directors.
The company said Schambach, a former executive at Lidl and Rewe, would join the board on 1 December.
Edeka has been at the centre of speculation in recent weeks over its rumoured interest in German discount stores Plus.
Reports in Germany have claimed that Tengelmann, which also owns US retailer A&P, is locked in talks with local retailer Rewe and Edeka, who are both said to be interested in buying the Plus business.
