German health officials have issued a public health warning this weekend, telling consumers that the Coulommiers brand of French cheese may be contaminated with the salmonella bacteria.

A statement released by the social affairs ministry of the state of Hesse explained that the affected cheese bears the number 168 and a use by date of between 3 and 17 August.

Coulommiers cheese is produced in Isigny-sur-Mer in northwestern France. French authorities have informed the European Union of possible health risks.
