German company Nordzucker has acquired majority stakes in three Hungarian sugar refineries that were formerly owned by French sugar producer Beghin-Say.

The three refineries, situated in Hatvan, Szolnok and Szerencs, produce 130,000 tonnes of sugar annually, accounting for around one third of Hungary’s sugar output.

Nordzucker already owned sugar refineries in the Czech Republic and Slovakia, but previously had no operations in Hungary, reported EcoNews.
