German retailer Metro Group is considering transferring hundreds of its accounting jobs offshore as part of moves to bundle roles in shared service centres.

A Metro Group spokesperson said today (25 October) the company is mulling whether to move up to 400 jobs abroad but that it would only be the case if all shared service centre jobs were transferred. However, he added, some jobs would remain on a “local level”.

Additionally, the spokesperson said there would be an impact on employees in the company’s international operations but was unable to say how many jobs might be lost.

The spokesperson declined to give any detail on which countries Metro might be moving the jobs to as “nothing has been decided yet”.
