Metro Group has opened a regional delivery depot in Munich to improve the supply chain of its cash-and-carry unit in Bavaria.
The facility, which opened earlier this week, is Metro Cash & Carry’s fourth regional delivery depot in Germany. Others are located in Weiterstadt, Essen and Hamburg.
A spokesperson for Metro told just-food today (4 July) the new depot would help it “optimise and further professionalise” its “delivery service” in “urban centres with a large customer potential”.
The 2,500sq ft facility will handle all deliveries for the Munich region, the spokesperson added, holding around 1,500 products.
“Through the Munich-Freimann store, further products can be easily and quickly supplemented. The depot, with about 30 employees, is responsible for delivery to our Munich-based stores in Freimann, Pasing and Brunnthal.
“The trading customers will continue to purchase as usual in their stores, but the ordered products will be handled centrally from Munich-Freimann in the future,” the spokesperson added. “The catchment area also includes towns in the Munich area. The Freimann store to which the delivery depot is linked represents a central location, offering optimum traffic connections.”
