German sugar refiner and food ingredients firm Suedzucker has reported an increase in quarterly profits thanks to its sugar business.
The company, one of Europe’s largest sugar refiners, said its sugar unit helped drive a 43% increase in its first-quarter operating profit.
Revenue in the three months to the end of May was up 15%, Suedzucker said.
Net profit, meanwhile, was boosted by a favourable “financial court proceeding”, the company added. Suedzucker did not provide a figure for its net profit.
It will report its full financial results for the first quarter of its financial year on 12 July.
