German conglomerate Tengelmann has admitted it is in talks over the future of its Plus discount stores.
Tengelmann, which sold off its Plus stores in Spain to Carrefour two months ago, is in discussions with potential partners over the future direction of the business.
Reports in Germany have claimed that Tengelmann, which also owns US retailer A&P, is locked in talks with local retailer Rewe and Edeka, who are both said to be interested in buying the Plus business.
Tengelmann insisted it remains “committed” to Plus and it wanted the business to attain a “solid market position” in Germany.
“We are negotiating with a couple of partners about business solutions,” Tengelmann told just-food today (17 September) “Multifaceted models are possible. Currently we are checking which option is the best for the company.”
