German retailer REWE Group has appointed a buying director for its Penny discount chain.
Alfred Glander will take up the position on the management board from 1 October and will assume responsibility for purchasing and category management.
He will report directly to Armin Rehberg, head of the Penny chain.
Glander has a large amount of experience in food retailing and in the discount sector and has held leadership positions at Edeka and Tengelmann. Most recently he was the head of the Plus discount chain.
Rehberg said Glander is a “proven expert” in the discount business and will help strengthen the team.
“We are pleased that with Alfred Glander a proven expert discounted the leadership team of Penny strengthened,” says Rehberg. “He is the positive development of our markets at home and abroad, important additional impetus.”
