Vivartia, Greece’s largest food company, has been hit with a EUR21.8m (US$31.9m) fine for its part in fixing the price of dairy products in the country.
The company announced the fine late last week (28 December) after the Hellenic Competition Authority punished a slew of dairy processors and retailers for their part in the affair.
Vivartia’s fine was part of a reported second round of fines totaling EUR28.6m that landed at the door of companies including dairy firms Meygal and Olymbos.
Last month, Nestlé vowed to fight the Greek government in court after the company was fined for its alleged part in the scandal.
Nestlé, which was fined EUR6.2m, has pleaded its innocence and said it would take the matter to court.
