Hong Kong has blocked another Vietnamese province from shipping its meat to the country on the back of bird flu concerns.

Imports from Vietnam's Ninh Thuan Province have been stopped following a notification from the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE) about an outbreak of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza.

The ban includes poultry meat and products including eggs. Due to the "development of outbreaks" in Vietnam, imports of salted duck eggs in all infected regions have also been suspended, a statement read.

"The CFS has contacted the Vietnamese authorities over the issue and will closely monitor information issued by the OIE on avian influenza outbreaks in the country. Appropriate action will be taken in response to the development of the situation," the spokesman said.

On 27 August, Hong Kong's Centre of Food Safety suspended imports from Vietnam's Lao Cai Province.
