Mondelez International has opened new three lines at its Székesfehérvár chocolate plant in Hungary.
The factory underwent a three-year investment of US$50m, which saw installation of the new lines that allow it to increase its production capacity by 70%. The investment has also seen 350 new jobs created.
Székesfehérvár will become Mondelez’s European production hub for the so-called “choco-bakery sandwiches”, products like the Cadbury Dairy Milk Ritz snacks sold in the UK.
The snacks were made and sold across Europe but a spokesperson said the investment has had “no consequences on other plants”.
“Mondelez Europe ran a thorough investigation before selecting the venue of the choco-bakery production. Our Székesfehérvár plant was chosen as the optimal location for the investment because the plant is very competitive within Mondelez International with multiple advantageous factors like overall production costs, biscuits production know-how and qualified employees,” a spokesperson for Mondelez told just-food.
