Iceland Seafood International (ISI) has moved its chairman Bjarni Armannsson into the chief executive role as current CEO Helgi Anton Eiriksson plans to step down to “explore new opportunities”.

Eiriksson has headed up the frozen, salted and fresh seafood processor for the past nine years.

Armannsson, meanwhile, will resign from the chairman seat to be replaced by board director Benedikt Sveinsson, who will be supported in his role by Mark Holyoake, according to a statement today (23 January) from the Reykjavik-based company.     

Incoming CEO Ármannsson said: “I have in my role as chairman of the board seen first hand the opportunities that exist for this group of companies and the excellent work under the stewardship of Helgi that has been accomplished to date….”

ISI said a previously-arranged shareholder meeting slated for 5 February will elect a new board.

And in another executive departure, Lee Camfield, ISI’s chief operations officer, has also announced he is leaving the firm.

In May last year, ISI agreed terms to acquire Solo Seafood, which owns Spain-based Icelandic Iberica. On completion of the transaction, Iceland Seafood said it would operate nine factories spread across seven countries, while the combined company would serve 45 countries with more than 3,000 customers around the world. 

Outgoing CEO Eiriksson added: “I am very proud of and grateful for my time as group CEO of ISI. The group continues to enjoy strong financial growth and the recent Iberica transaction has provided the group with many positives to look forward to and achieve.”
