Bangladeshi food firm Pran-RFL is planning to set up a food and drink processing plant in Tripura in north-eastern India.

India lifted the ban on direct investment from Bangladesh last year and has allocated a ten-acre industrial plot for this project.

Pran-RFL export manager Parammudin Hussain said: “The plant will initially produce fruit-based jellies and drinks and is expected to come into operation by 2009, with an expected annual turnover of about US$16m.”

Tripura is close to the Indian border with Bangladesh and Pran hopes to transport raw materials from the country, Hussain added.
