According to reports in the Indian press, Bharti Enterprises said today (27 September) that it is in talks with various international retailers regarding its planned foray into the grocery arena, indicating that the UK’s Tesco is currently its partner of choice.

Speaking to reporters at an event to inaugurate an agricultural centre opened by Freshfield Foods, a Bharti JV, group MD Sunil Bharti Mittal told reporters that the company is in talks with Tesco, Wal-Mart and Carrefour. “Our main thrust is food and grocery and Tesco seems better equipped,” Mittal purportedly said.

The company will announce its final decision on the highly anticipated retail partnership on 10 October.
