The biscuit factory workers union is threatening that unless labour laws are fully implemented a state-wide strike will be launched on 7 February.
The secretary for the union alleges that the many exploitative owners of biscuit factories are by-passing labour laws and depriving workers of their rights. The union adds that it repeatedly appealed to the state government to intervene, but its anti-labour stance meant it has not encouraged the implementation of laws designed to protect workers.
A meeting held by the union on Monday (22 January) decided that the strike action was necessary if nothing was done to prevent the exploitation.
