Indian food giant Britannia Industries has booked an increase in first-quarter profits.

The bakery and dairy group reported earnings of INR43.45bn (US$782.9m) in the three months to the end of June, a 3.9% increase on the prior-year period. Operating profit amounted to INR59.3bn, a 45.5% increase on last year.

Sales climbed 10.9% to reach INR1.22trn.
