Indian-made versions of Dan Cake’s Danesita biscuits, cookies and cakes will enter the local market by the end of the year, the Portuguese group has confirmed.
Last month, Dan Cake and India-based Phadnis Group signed a venture to set up a production facility in the country.

The venture, in which Dan Cake will own a 66% stake, is building a site in Chakan, 30 kilometres from Phadnis’ Indian headquarters in Pune in central India.
Dan Cake will bring ingredient and baking knowledge but look to leverage Phadnis’s operational capabilities. The Indian company also has infrastructure, real estate and hospitality interests.
Phadnis chairman and MD Vinay Phadnis told just-food: “We will set up an ultra-modern, fully-mechanised manufacturing unit where all Danesita value-added products will be produced. This will be the first Dan Cake production unit outside of Portugal.”
While the Chakan plant is under construction, production will be undertaken at an alternative site, at Khapoli, 120 kilometres from Pune. The venture will also explore exporting to neighbouring countries.
